As part of the annual joint military exercise Cobra Gold 2012, the Royal Thai Police and the Navy have joined hands with the U.S. military in a sweeping operation to eradicate drug trafficking in Pattaya .

The Provincial Police Region 2, the Royal Thai marines, the US’s Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) participated in the Rattlesnake Operation in Chonburi’s Pattaya with an aim to suppress drug trafficking in the area.

Commissioner of the Provincial Police Region 2 Pol. Lt. Gen. Panya Mamen disclosed that the operation, which was carried out for 3 days during February 13-15, 2012, led to 58 drug-related arrests.

The Cobra Gold is an annual joint military training program co-sponsored by Thailand and the U.S., and participated by military personnel from many countries; including Singapore, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Indonesia and Malaysia.
